It’s so obvious by my Instagram stories that I am a celery juice lover. It has been life changing, actually. I was so scared about drinking juices because of all of the sugar, but dealing with chronic illness led me to a road where I had to rethink and relearn what was actually true for me and my body. I had tried every diet theory, every product on the market, system and even vegan keto without success. Even after everything I tried I still felt icky!!!
In my early 20’s I decided to follow the food pyramid and by the end of the first day I felt bloated, lethargic and downright awful!! That was the first time I realized what was recommended, wasn’t close to what my body needed. I now make choices of what I consume by how I feel after I consume it! I am no longer a slave to what “the recommended” foods are, because following that theory, or any other diet “theory” has never worked for me.
I was so unwell in the beginning of 2020 that I chose to get back to the basics. The basics meant removing all processed foods, not that I consumed many, and only including things that were unadulterated and pure. Including juices into my diet was at the top of my list, something I had always shunned. Only consuming pure things meant I had to change everything, but most challenging was changing my mindset because since I was a teen I’d been told that fruit and drinking juice was always a no-no. Too much sugar…blah, blah, blah!!!
I didn’t quite know at the time but my body was desperate for vitamins and minerals. I decided to make a drastic change, feeling as though it was my last resort, I decided to include lots of fruits in veggies in juice form. Creating delicious juices that housed these nutrients were exactly what I needed. I knew instantly that juicing was exactly what had been missing from my life. It was fascinating to see how my body and brain just came alive when I first started consuming this living water, and not to mention how absolutely amazing they all tasted!
I now consume as much juice as my body desires. I never feel like I need to restrict myself from fruit or juice as now I understand that they are filled with antioxidants, which prevent oxidizing aka aging.
So how does one go about extracting this healing water? Consuming high water fruits and veggies in their natural states are a great, no fuss, way to start. You’ll get an amazing amount of fiber if you so choose this way. Fiber is a severely under utilized commodity in the SAD diet, the Standard American Diet, and Yes! It’s a sad way to “eat”. Over fed, undernourished, and constipated is what you’ll be if you live your life by those rules. Smoothies are another great way to extract the juice and still keep the fiber, but the holy grail is juicing!
I LOVE juice! I typically walk around with 32-64 ounces in my hand. I consume SO much of it on a daily basis that people make comments. “Oh, my! That’s a lot of juice! That’s just too much sugar!” If you still have this mindset I’m here to say the following…Ummm, nope! You are completely wrong. You’re still hanging on to the programming that juice is bad. Well, let me clarify, cold pressed juices are life. The garbage we give our kids, the stuff that sits on the shelves, yes! That’s bad. Cold pressed juices that we juice ourselves or get from the local shops, is literally life in a bottle!
When juices are cold pressed it’s means just that. We take whole, living foods and extract the water, filled with what our brains and cells need for survival. When it’s extracted and pastuerized, meaning heated, it destroys any nutrients that are healing to our bodies. At that point it’s dead sugar water, and that is not what we need.
So what are my faves? My go-to when I’m out and about is Whole Foods’ organic orange juice. Some locations you can even juice it yourself. I love that because I know it’s nourishment is at its peak! Watermelon juice is what I consistently make at home, it’s probably my favorite! If you haven’t tried it, please do so! It’s amazing! I typically cut up watermelon and put it in my juicer. I could drink a gallon a day, maybe even two, sans the guilt!
How can you get started? Well the first obvious step is to get a juicer. My personal favorite brand is Tribest Greenstar Juicer . It’s an investment but SO worth the money. It’s a double masticating juicer, which means it won’t heat up the juice and destroy its nutrients. It’s super easy to clean and is a breeze to put back together. It felt overwhelming at first but after a few attempts it now takes me less than 15 seconds to reassemble.
It is amazing at juicing even the hardest of veggies and greens. I’ve tried other juicers but the results were underwhelming at best. With my Tribest Greenstar Juicer
I know I save so much money on produce because it leaves the pulp dry, only leaving the juice for me to enjoy! Other juicers leave behind a pile of warm, soggy pulp, degrading the mineral and vitamin content from the produce. Sidenote, juice starts to degrade when exposed to heat of 116° F or higher.
If you’re still unsure about juicing, do your research! The brain needs glucose to survive! Fruit juices are a perfect way to keep your brain functioning optimally and not to mention keeping you youthful, since it’s full of antioxidants!
If you’re inspired to start juicing, DM me and share your story with me! I’d love to connect with you and hear how you’re doing with it!
