I’ve spent my whole adult life in the beauty industry. As I reflect upon my life it’s amazing to see how the beauty industry has changed and how I’ve changed along with it. As a young stylist I always kept up with the industry, learning new techniques by trekking to New York and spending all weekend immersed in the latest trends. Countless classes, and relentless practice sessions on anyone who would allow me to use them as a model to attending the coolest hair show I’ve been to in Paris. That was an amazing experience! To now evolving into a Trichologist, because hair loss is something that isn’t taught to hairstylists and colorists, and female pattern hair loss runs in my family. Being proactive was important to greatly delay the, perhaps, inevitable.
Becoming a Trichologist has given me a chance to expand my love for health, wellness, and beauty all while helping people. Even after 27 years in the beauty industry, I didn’t have the awareness, I didn’t have a clue what the heck I was looking at, until I started training as a trichologist. Hair growth is a finicky thing. Although hair is important to us, it is not a vital organ to sustain life. So when there’s something up in the body, hair is the first thing to go and the last to come back. It boils down to the cells not getting what they need to produce the actual hair fiber.
What can we do about it? A balance of protein and carbs are necessary for hair to grow, but I also focus on elements from both within the body and from the outside. Nutrients are vital to produce energy in our hair follicles. It’s what fuels our cells, the mitochondria. Without the proper nourishment, the energy isn’t as abundant as needed, therefore not allowing the hair to properly form.
Although I consume the foods that provide my body with what it needs, I have malabsorption issues, as do many Americans because our food supply and soil quality, so I have to take vitamins to supplement my diet. I’ve been on many supplements in my life and the ones I prefer are in liquid form. Since they are in liquid form, it does not take my body any energy to break them down and they’re absorbed immediately, perfect for my absorption issues.
“The Melissa Anger bundle” from Mary Ruth’s Organics includes some of my faves.I take this trio religiously. Mary Ruth’s Organics (Use promo code CRISTYAGO15 for an additional 15% off.) The multi gives me what I need to support the energy function in my hair follicles. The probiotic helps with gut health, super important for hair growth and overall health. And last but not least the hair care supplement, which contains natural DHT blockers that are instantly absorbed. DHT is a hormone which occurs in the oil gland of the hair follicle, which causes hair loss.
